A Cost-Effective Method for Power Factor Metering Systems

The power factor (PF) is an important measurement in AC electrical system that indicates how much is utilized to accomplish productive work by a load and consumed. As result, it's one of the primary causes excessive energy costs outages. This paper aims present simple, cost-effective, accurate PF metering monitoring implemented using Arduino microcontroller with a novel methodology different from other papers. proposed method design the software code instead of external components Zero-Crossing Detectors (Z-CDs) for both voltage (V) current (I) signals, instead Exclusive-OR (X-OR) gates also. Determining phase-angle efficient manner can be useful many approaches systems: 1-for synchronization parallel connections alternators; 2-for directional protection systems; 3-for correction management; 4-for designing watt/energy meters. Using Proteus 8 Professional (ISIS program), designed circuit was simulated more verification. simulation experimental findings are presented validate proposed system's effectiveness.
